Perdue Accused Of Lying About 'Humane' Chicken Treatment

Law360, Los Angeles (October 24, 2013, 10:20 PM EDT) -- A putative class action on Thursday accused chicken producer Perdue Farms Inc. of misleading consumers by promoting its chickens as humanely raised in an U.S. Department of Agriculture-approved process, when it used the same inhumane industry standards as other chicken farms.

Consumer Wendy Roy brought the suit in Florida federal court, accusing the company of violating the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act by using the labels “Humanely Raised” and “USDA Process Verified” on the packaging for its Harvestland line of chicken to describe industry...
