United Airlines Fined $1.1M For Tarmac Delays In Chicago

Law360, New York (October 25, 2013, 7:17 PM EDT) -- United Airlines was fined $1.1 million over long delays at Chicago-O’Hare International Airport in July 2012 that flouted restrictions since 2010 on tarmac delays, the U.S. Department of Transportation said Friday.

Some $475,000 of that fine amount will go to the U.S., and the rest of it will go toward paying for  “mitigation measures” for passengers affected by the delays as well as for steps to make sure it complies with rules limiting tarmac delays, the department said in a statement Friday.
