Commerce Launches Probe Of MSG From China, Indonesia

Law360, New York (October 28, 2013, 12:40 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Commerce has initiated an investigation into imports of monosodium glutamate from China and Indonesia, which a U.S. producer has alleged are being sold at unfairly low prices and may also benefit from illegal government subsidies, the agency announced Thursday.

Commerce's International Trade Administration will examine allegations made by Itasca, Ill.-based Ajinomoto North America Inc. in a Sept. 16 petition for anti-dumping and countervailing duties to remedy the advantage currently afforded to the Chinese and Indonesian MSG shipments entering the U.S.
