ArcelorMittal Steel Patent Deemed Invalid, Suit Junked

Law360, New York (October 29, 2013, 9:57 PM EDT) -- A Delaware federal judge on Friday dismissed an infringement suit facing AK Steel Corp. after declaring ArcelorMittal SA's patent covering a form of specialized steel invalid, saying the company illegally broadened the claims when it obtained a reissue of the patent.

ArcelorMittal's reissued patent for reinforced, lightweight steel used in car manufacturing enlarged claims that AK Steel previously didn't infringe long after the two-year window for expanding the patent’s coverage had expired, U.S. District Judge Sue L. Robinson said.
