Playboy Drink Trademark Suit Dropped In Favor of State Case

Law360, New York (October 30, 2013, 3:47 PM EDT) -- An Illinois federal judge has ended a lawsuit filed by Playboy against Play Beverages LCC over a Playboy-branded energy drink, the drink maker said Wednesday, though the trademark licensing dispute between the former business partners will continue in state court.

After refusing to pull Play Bev's drinks from store shelves, U.S. District Judge Robert Gettleman stayed the case in May, and he fully terminated the proceedings earlier this month. He did so in favor of a state-court case filed by Play Bev over a related claim:...
