DOI Chief Orders Mitigation Policy For Energy Projects

Law360, New York (October 31, 2013, 3:41 PM EDT) -- The head of the U.S. Department of the Interior issued the first secretarial order of her short tenure on Thursday, instructing the agency's energy and climate task force to craft a comprehensive mitigation strategy for development projects on federal lands.

Stressing the importance of balancing tensions between conservation and development, Interior Secretary Sally Jewell said that any energy projects on public tracts must be accompanied by strategic conservation and restoration elements that protect natural resources.
