USTR Says Trade Agenda Can Bolster Global Standards

Law360, New York (October 31, 2013, 5:15 PM EDT) -- Pursuing an aggressive trade agenda helps position the U.S. to set high global standards in areas like labor, the environment and intellectual property protections, U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman said Wednesday.

Speaking in New York at a conference hosted by The Economist magazine, the USTR said part of the reason for the Obama administration's strong focus on negotiating new trade agreements stems from the opportunity it gives the U.S. to help raise standards in a range of areas.
