Immigrants' Appeal Of Texas Driver's License Suit Nixed

Law360, Dallas (October 31, 2013, 9:12 PM EDT) -- A Texas appeals court said Thursday that the state Department of Public Safety has government immunity from a suit launched by a group of workers and businesses challenging the agency's policy on driver’s licenses for legal temporary immigrants.

The long-running dispute stems from a series of Texas DPS policy memos that required workers to have at least a one-year authorization to be in the country, despite the fact some work visas, like the federal H-2B program, last for only 10 months, according to court filings. Seeking...
