MEMC Files Semiconductor Patent Suit After Raid

Law360, New York (January 1, 2006, 12:00 AM EST) -- Semiconductor giant MEMC Electronic Materials Inc. has sued French chip equipment maker Soitec S.A. for violation of MEMC's European patents on defect-free silicon, or “perfect Silicon”.

The lawsuit was filed in the First Instance Court in Lyon, France and came on the heels of a seizure of Soitec’s products by MEMC in accordance with French law. The seizure took place at a French Soitec facility in mid December and unearthed evidence MEMC believes shows clear violation of its patents by Soitec.
