Sutter Health Coughs Up $46M For Overcharging Insurers

Law360, Los Angeles (November 4, 2013, 9:17 PM EST) -- California hospital operator Sutter Health agreed to pay $46 million and alter its billing policies to settle a whistleblower suit that alleged it was overcharging private insurers, the state’s insurance commissioner said Monday.

California insurance commissioner Dave Jones said Sutter Health said the hospital chain agreed to amend its disclosures on how each service is billed, especially anesthesia, as part of the agreement.
