Bartender Hits Miami Beach Hotel With FLSA Suit

Law360, Miami (November 8, 2013, 5:36 PM EST) -- A bartender at the iconic Clevelander Hotel in Miami Beach sued her employer on Wednesday on behalf of tipped workers for allegedly violating the minimum wage requirements of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

In a complaint filed in Florida state court, Esma Jakuj said that 2K Clevelander LLC, which operates the South Beach hotel, forces its tipped workers to share tips with non-tipped employees, makes them work off the clock at a reduced hourly rate while doing non-tipped work, and fails to pay them for training...
