U.S., EU Appeal To WTO On Chinese News Rules

Law360, New York (March 3, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- The U.S. and EU have filed for dispute settlement consultation with the World Trade Organization against China over regulations that restrict financial news sources in China.

Under Chinese law, financial news services such as Dow Jones and Bloomberg, must operate through a government-designated distributor and cannot run local operations in China. The agency that regulates financial news is affiliated with a Chinese financial news service, creating a conflict of interest, U.S. Trade Representative Susan Schwab said.
