Obama OKs 1-Year Extensions Of ACA's Canceled Plans

Law360, New York (November 14, 2013, 12:03 PM EST) -- Besieged with criticism, President Barack Obama on Thursday said he is ordering a regulatory fix that will allow Americans to temporarily keep insurance policies that otherwise would have been scrapped because they don't meet Affordable Care Act standards.

Several million people have received cancellation notices recently because ACA provisions on essential benefits and guaranteed coverage are about to take effect, and while most consumers are expected to wind up with cheaper and better insurance sold through online marketplaces, some could see costs rise substantially.
