2nd Circ. Nixes Restitution For Late Guidepoint Blackmailer

Law360, New York (November 14, 2013, 1:49 PM EST) -- A former Guidepoint Global LLC employee who committed suicide after serving a one-year sentence for blackmailing the consulting firm with insider trading accusations no longer has to pay restitution, the Second Circuit ruled on Thursday, after Guidepoint agreed not to seek the money.

Paul Kuruzovich was sentenced to one year in prison and ordered to pay nearly $60,000 in restitution after admitting that he threatened to tell authorities that Guidepoint's CEO had engaged in insider trading unless he received additional compensation. According to court documents, Kuruzovich...
