Del Monte Pays $1.2M To Settle EEOC Farmworker Bias Suit

Law360, New York (November 18, 2013, 4:47 PM EST) -- Del Monte Fresh Produce has agreed to pay $1.2 million and establish protocols to ensure the farm labor contractors it works with follow anti-discrimination laws to settle the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission's claims that it mistreated Thai workers, the agency announced Monday.

Del Monte's Hawaiian unit was one of six farms named in the agency's 2011 lawsuit against Global Horizons Inc., the farm labor contractor responsible for recruiting the workers from Thailand, and the company is the first to finalize a settlement with the agency....
