FCC Chief Tells Phone Cos. To Adopt Unlocking Standards

Law360, New York (November 15, 2013, 2:49 PM EST) -- Federal Communications Commission Chairman Tom Wheeler on Thursday urged cellphone providers to update their guidelines to address consumers' right to unlock their phones once their contracts have been fulfilled.

In a letter to the CTIA - The Wireless Association, Wheeler emphasized the importance of competition and the FCC's receptiveness to voluntary industry activities to promote competition.
