Claims Against BP For Texas City Blast Exceed $2B

Law360 (March 4, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- BP Plc has set aside $2.13 billion to settle civil claims arising from a fatal explosion at its Texas City, Texas, refinery in 2005, marking a significant increase from the $1.6 billion the company had previously disclosed.

The company said Tuesday in its annual report that it has reached more than 2,000 settlements related to all fatalities and many of the personal injury claims that arose from the March 2005 incident, in which 15 people were killed and more than 170 injured. A number of claims...
