Oakland Scores Record $15M From Bogus Immigration Co.

Law360, New York (November 22, 2013, 3:16 PM EST) -- The city of Oakland, Calif., on Thursday announced that it has won a record-breaking $15.1 million judgment against a company accused of scamming aspiring immigrants with bogus promises of legal assistance in exchange for significant up-front fees.

City Attorney Barbara Parker announced the Nov. 7 judgment against American Legal Services and its various entities and associated individuals in Alameda County Superior Court, which followed a two-day October bench trial.
