NYC Council Set To Push For E-Cig Indoor Smoking Ban

Law360, New York (November 27, 2013, 2:02 PM EST) -- The New York City Council said Wednesday it is set to take up a proposal that would add e-cigarettes to the law that prohibits smoking in restaurants, parks, beaches and elsewhere, saying the tobacco alternatives are undermining the city's Smoke-Free Air Act.

E-cigarettes contain nicotine, the addictive ingredient in tobacco, as well as other unknown substances, and their use indoors may "threaten the progress" the city has made on indoor smoking, the council said in a statement that calls for "decisive and immediate action."
