Rep. Wants Gas Tax Upped To Fund Transport Infrastructure

Law360, Washington (December 3, 2013, 4:56 PM EST) -- Rep. Earl Blumenauer, D-Ore., is set to introduce a bill Wednesday to nearly double the current federal gasoline tax in order to maintain the viability of a federal transportation infrastructure fund, a transportation workers union has announced.

According to the announcement, made last week by the United Transportation Union, Blumenauer will unveil a bill at a news conference Wednesday to raise the current 18.4 cent-per-gallon federal tax — a level set in 1993 — by 15 cents per gallon, to 33.4 cents per gallon.
