Former Duke Energy Trader Settles With CFTC

Law360 (March 6, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission has reached a $55,000 settlement with a former Duke Energy Trading and Marketing LLC trader accused in 2005 of falsely reporting market information in an attempt to influence natural gas prices.

Judge Kenneth M. Hoyt approved a consent order Wednesday in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas requiring Michael Whitney to pay a $55,000 civil penalty and to agree not to falsely report information or try to influence prices of any commodity in interstate commerce....
