Los Angeles Lays Down Limits On E-Cigarette Sales

Law360, San Diego (December 5, 2013, 10:52 PM EST) -- The Los Angeles City Council passed an ordinance placing restrictions on the sales of electronic cigarettes on Wednesday, claiming the devices may pose a health hazard.

The ordinance puts the electronic- and battery-operated cigarettes in the same category as tobacco products, exposing their sales to the same restrictions. The measure requires a vendor who sells e-cigarettes to obtain a tobacco permit and to physically hand the product to consumers. E-cigarettes allow users to inhale a dose of nicotine vapor and do not contain tobacco.
