NJ Panel OKs Bill To Give Voters Say On Cap-and-Trade Pact

Law360, New York (December 12, 2013, 7:34 PM EST) -- A New Jersey Senate committee on Thursday advanced a bill that would put a referendum before voters on the state’s re-entry into a regional cap-and-trade pact from which Gov. Chris Christie withdrew New Jersey after calling it ineffective.

The New Jersey Senate’s Environment Committee released SCR-146, which would allow voters to approve an amendment to the state constitution to require its membership in the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, a coalition of nine northeastern states that formed in 2005 to jointly tackle the issue of carbon emissions....
