EU Rebuffs Germany's Amended VW Law

Law360, New York (March 10, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The European Union's competition commissioner is reportedly rejecting a new German law that would still allow the government to intervene in hostile takeovers of Volkswagen AG and has threatened to sue to stop the measure from going ahead.

Commissioner Neelie Kroes recently warned the German economics minister, Michael Glos, that the European Commission could take legal action to thwart Germany's attempt to revive the law in a new version after Europe's highest court shot it down, the German magazine Focus reported Sunday.
