Transparency Staves Off Employment Tax Actions, Feds Say

Law360, New York (December 17, 2013, 5:42 PM EST) -- To keep clients out of employment tax prosecution hot water, attorneys should stress prompt client response times and early transparency, officials from the U.S. Department of Justice and the Internal Revenue Service office of chief counsel said Tuesday.

In a presentation organized by the American Bar Association, government officials and leading tax professionals said early transparency is the biggest factor in the IRS’ decision on whether to initiate criminal prosecution against employment tax dodgers.
