French Watchdog Hits EDF With $18.6M Market Abuse Fine

Law360, New York (December 18, 2013, 3:32 PM EST) -- France’s antitrust regulator cracked state-owned Electricite de France International SA with an €13.5 million ($18.6 million) fine Tuesday, finding the utility exploited its market dominance to give its residential solar energy business an edge over competitors.

The Autorite de la Concurrence sustained complaints from solar power generation rival Solaire Direct that EDF had abused its dominant position in the French electricity market and furnished its subsidiary EDF Energies Nouvelles Reparties with irreproducible competitive advantages.
