Warren Floats Bill Banning Credit Checks Of New Hires

Law360, Los Angeles (December 17, 2013, 8:47 PM EST) -- Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., and a group of Democratic co-sponsors introduced legislation Tuesday that would make it illegal for employers to require job applicants to disclose their credit history as part of the hiring process.

Warren’s bill, called the Equal Employment for All Act, would amend the Fair Credit Reporting Act to prohibit employers from using consumer credit checks as justification for not hiring a potential employee or for demoting or firing a current employee.
