NM High Court Says 'I Do' To Same-Sex Marriage Rights

Law360, New York (December 19, 2013, 4:55 PM EST) -- New Mexico's highest court unanimously ruled Thursday that the state's constitution requires that same-sex couples must be treated equally under the law and must therefore have the same right to marry as opposite-sex couples.

The state Supreme Court concluded that barring individuals from marrying and depriving them of the right to civil marriage solely because of their sexual orientation violates the Equal Protection Clause of New Mexico's constitution.
