NASD Names New Chairman

Law360, New York (January 12, 2006, 12:00 AM EST) -- The National Association of Securities Dealers has elected its next chairman, choosing Mary Schapiro to succeed Robert Glauber as chief of the organization that regulates the NASDAQ, the American Stock Exchange and the International Stock Exchange.

Schapiro will take office in December 2006.

Current NASD Chairman and CEO Robert Glauber praised the board’s choice of successor.

“Her election ensures that we don't skip a beat through the transition and that NASD continues to build on its positive momentum in the years ahead,” he said.
