Yamaha Targets Toshiba, Samsung In Disc Patent Spat

Law360, Los Angeles (January 2, 2014, 3:41 PM EST) -- Yamaha Corp. on Tuesday filed a complaint in California federal court alleging that a joint venture between Toshiba Corp. and Samsung Electronics Ltd. infringed its patents for writing information to CDs, DVDs and Blu-ray discs.

The suit claims that Toshiba Samsung Storage Technology Corp., a Tokyo-based hardware group set up by the two tech giants, and its Korean subsidiary are selling optical disk drives that infringe 11 Yamaha patents, despite Yamaha’s offer to license the technology to the companies.
