Panasonic, Whirlpool Strike $48M Compressor Cartel Deal

Law360, New York (January 2, 2014, 6:02 PM EST) -- Panasonic Corp., two Whirlpool Corp. units and other manufacturers have agreed to pay up to $48.4 million to settle class allegations that they fixed the prices of fractional compressors used in refrigeration devices, according to a filing in Michigan federal court last week.

The Dec. 27 motion for preliminary approval of four settlements, submitted by the direct purchasers of standalone compressors, replaced a similar motion they made in early May seeking court approval for three of the deals — those reached with Whirlpool’s Embraco North America...
