DOD Pushes Rule To Issue Military IDs To Same-Sex Spouses

Law360, New York (January 6, 2014, 7:21 PM EST) -- The U.S. Department of Defense is including same-sex spouses of uniformed service members in definitions of “spouses” and “marriage,” cementing the path to issue military ID cards to all legally married partners, according to a rule published Monday.

The interim rule published in the Federal Register in light of the U.S. Supreme Court's landmark decision in June that rejected the Defense of Marriage Act states that the department will issue ID cards to uniformed service members and their dependents. The rule, which is subject to comments...
