Former Alcatel-Lucent Workers Bring ERISA Suit

Law360, New York (March 12, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A group of 27 former employees of Alcatel-Lucent claims the telecommunications giant violated the Employee Retirement Income Security Act by duping them into accepting an early-retirement benefits package and keeping a more valuable benefits deal under wraps.

The former employees lodged the ERISA suit in the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts on Tuesday against Lucent Technologies Inc., which has since merged with Alcatel, the company's $21 billion pension plan, and other benefits plans.
