Ex-Pa. Sen. Ruled Mentally Unfit To Face Corruption Trial

Law360, Philadelphia (January 7, 2014, 4:43 PM EST) -- A Pennsylvania federal judge ruled Tuesday that Raphael Musto, the 84-year-old former Pennsylvania state senator facing corruption charges for allegedly taking bribes to help obtain grants for construction projects, was mentally unfit to stand trial.

After a daylong hearing Monday on Musto’s competency to stand trial, U.S. District Judge A. Richard Caputo granted the former Democratic politician’s request for an indefinite continuance on mental health grounds, while rejecting claims that his physical condition placed obstacles to a trial.
