EOG Not Liable For Drunk Employee's Death, Court Says

Law360, Houston (January 8, 2014, 7:28 PM EST) -- A Texas appeals court ruled Tuesday that EOG Resources Inc. is not responsible for the death of an employee with an extensive history of alcoholism who died in auto accident that resulted from drinking on the job. 

The First District Court of Appeals ruled that under Texas law, employers generally have no obligation to prevent employees from injuring themselves as a result of their own intoxication.
