Veritas Gets Microsoft Patent Invalidated

Law360, New York (March 13, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A federal judge ruled Tuesday that a Microsoft Corp. patent on a method for replicating data files is invalid, handing a victory to a Symantec Corp. subsidiary in its ongoing dispute with Microsoft over patents and trade secrets.

The patent in issue describes a “replication facility provides for the replication of files or portions of files in a distributed environment.” Microsoft asserted the patent against Symantec subsidiary Veritas Inc. after Veritas sued the software giant in 2006, alleging infringement of one of its patents on data...
