By Andrew Scurria (January 8, 2014, 1:43 PM EST) -- Los Angeles lodged a lawsuit on Tuesday in a bid to stop the reopening of an urban oil and gas production site shuttered by its owners in November after federal investigators began probing neighboring residents' complaints of respiratory ailments from noxious chemical emissions.
City attorney Mike Feuer is asking for an injunction prohibiting closely held AllenCo Energy Inc. from opening a walled energy pumping facility until it has corrected a litany of alleged violations of city and state environmental, fire safety and hazardous material transportation requirements.
