Agencies Inconsistently Handle Data Breaches, GAO Says

Law360, New York (January 8, 2014, 5:51 PM EST) -- Eight federal agencies, including the Federal Reserve Board, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and the U.S. Army, inconsistently implement policies to respond to data breaches of personally identifiable information, according to a U.S. Government Accountability Office report released Wednesday.

The report examined the practices of a selection of agencies and determined that they need to be more consistent in their response to data breaches and the unintentional disclosure of sensitive information which can lead to identity theft or other fraudulent activity.
