Senate Proposal Ties Veterans' Pensions to Tax Loophole

Law360, New York (January 13, 2014, 2:17 PM EST) -- A measure proposed by Senate Republicans on Friday would restore veterans’ benefits to their levels from before last month’s Ryan-Murray budget deal, funding itself by preventing illegal immigrants from claiming a tax credit for having three or more children.

The measure, proposed as an amendment to the unemployment extension deal, would require taxpayers who want to claim the Additional Child Tax Credit to provide their Social Security number, instead of their Individual Taxpayer Identification Number, which currently  provides a legal mechanism for people to pay taxes...
