DOJ Acting Hastily In IRS Tea Party Probe, Hatch Says

Law360, New York (January 14, 2014, 5:50 PM EST) -- U.S. Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, sounded disapproval Tuesday at news that the U.S. Department of Justice likely won't file criminal charges stemming from a probe into the Internal Revenue Service's treatment of conservative groups, saying the agency is acting prematurely.

Hatch, a ranking member of the Senate Finance Committee, says the Justice Department's apparent decision — which was reported Monday by the Wall Street Journal — is “out of order” and “inappropriate” since the department hasn't even finished its investigation.
