Pioneer, Two Others Escape Media-Sharing Patent Battle

Law360, Los Angeles (January 14, 2014, 8:00 PM EST) -- A California federal judge on Tuesday dismissed three lawsuits brought against Pioneer Corp., Yamaha Corp. of America and Sonos Inc. by Black Hills Media LLC over alleged infringement related to media-sharing patents, dismissing the suits for lack of standing.

The judge’s decision comes after Delaware-based Black Hills sued Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., LG Electronics Inc., Sharp Corp., Toshiba Corp. and Panasonic Corp., in May, claiming the companies’ music playlist technology infringes its patents through sales of mobile phones, tablets, televisions, Blu-ray players and home theater systems...
