Ex-Jenkens Atty Seeks Acquittal Over Tax Shelters

Law360, New York (January 16, 2014, 7:26 PM EST) -- Former Jenkens & Gilchrist PC lawyer Paul Daugerdas asked a New York federal judge on Monday to reverse his tax evasion and fraud conviction, arguing in part that prosecutors had failed to prove transactions used in tax shelters lacked economic substance.

Attorneys for Daugerdas, the former head of Jenkens’ Chicago office, said the court should either reverse his conviction or grant a new trial. A jury found Daugerdas guilty on Oct. 31 of conspiracy, tax evasion, impeding Internal Revenue laws and mail fraud. He was acquitted...
