US, Fla. Antitrust Powers Probe Sysco’s $3.5B US Foods Buy

Law360, New York (January 17, 2014, 1:28 PM EST) -- Sysco Corp.'s proposed $3.5 billion acquisition of US Foods, which would merge two of the largest food distribution companies in the U.S., is under investigation by federal and Florida antitrust regulators, one of the state agencies involved in the probe announced Friday.

Investigators will be scrutinizing Texas-based Sysco's takeover of private equity-backed US Foods, one of the country's biggest private companies, to determine whether the merged entity would gain such a dominant position in the food distribution market that it would pose a threat to competition....
