Microsoft Can't Escape Patent Suit Over Data-Mining Tech

Law360, Los Angeles (January 17, 2014, 9:40 PM EST) -- A Minnesota federal judge on Friday shut down Microsoft Corp.’s attempt to dodge a patent dispute over data-mining technology claimed by MasterMine Software Inc. before the parties had completed discovery and conducted a Markman hearing.

U.S. District Judge Patrick Schiltz rejected Microsoft’s bid for summary judgment, finding that the case would require full discovery by the parties to determine whether Microsoft’s data-mining systems infringed two patents held by MasterMine, according to Friday’s decision.
