Mass. Illegally Brokered Wind Power Deal, Suit Says

Law360, New York (January 22, 2014, 2:57 PM EST) -- The town of Barnstable, Mass., and other opponents of a large wind farm filed suit Tuesday in Massachusetts federal court against administrators at the state's Department of Public Utilities, alleging they illegally pressured a utility company to buy power from a controversial wind farm project. 

In the complaint, Barnstable officials claim DPU Chair Ann Berwick and commissioners David Cash, Mark Sylvia and Jolette Westbrook refused to approve a $4.3 billion merger between NStar Electric Co. and Connecticut-based Northeast Utilities in 2012 unless NStar committed to buying energy...
