Ex-Policyholders Sue Humana Over Ignored Cancellations

Law360, Washington (January 22, 2014, 6:09 PM EST) -- Humana Inc. was hit with a putative class action by ex-policyholders in Missouri federal court on Tuesday, alleging the company took advantage of Affordable Care Act implementation by hiking up its health insurance premiums and ignoring customers' policy cancellation requests.

Lead plaintiff Daniel L. Doyle claimed he received a letter from Humana in August informing him that his policy would be canceled and replaced with a more expensive, ACA-compliant plan on Dec. 31, in light of the looming ACA individual mandate requirements.
