Union PAC Fees Not Illegal Payroll Deductions: Texas Court

Law360, New York (January 22, 2014, 7:43 PM EST) -- A Texas appeals court on Wednesday ruled that the Deputy Sheriff’s Association of Bexar County — the union that represents Bexar's deputy sheriffs — did not violate state law when it moved part of its members' union dues into a political action committee. 

Bexar County, which agreed to deduct the association’s membership dues of $40 from the payroll of deputies in its collective bargaining agreement, argued that it was unlawful to deduct an additional $10 fee once it learned the funds were going to the PAC....
