AOL, Google, Target Owe Ongoing Royalties For New AdWords

Law360, Los Angeles (January 22, 2014, 4:17 PM EST) -- A Virginia federal judge on Tuesday found that AOL Inc., Google Inc., Target Corp. and others’ new modified version of Adwords still infringes a Vringo Inc. subsidiary’s search engine advertisement patents, and ordered ongoing royalties as long as the defendants use the updated system.

The decision comes just after U.S. District Judge Raymond A. Jackson ordered the defendants to pay more than $16 million to I/P Engine Inc. for supplemental damages and prejudgment interest after the companies were found last year to infringe the patents. I/P...
