ConAgra, Trader Joe's Hit With $60M Suit Over Pretzel Sales

Law360, New York (January 22, 2014, 10:48 PM EST) -- Maxim Marketing Corp. hit ConAgra Foods Inc. and Trader Joe's Co. with a $60 million breach of contract suit Wednesday in California state court, saying ConAgra bought its pretzel distributor, interfering with Maxim's pretzel distribution deal with the grocery chain.

The suit — which also alleges intentional interference with contractual relations, violations of state antitrust laws and other claims — accuses the defendants of engaging in an unlawful conspiracy to eliminate competition and attempting to monopolize the peanut butter-filled pocket pretzel market.
