Ex-Fla. Mayor Marono Gets Over 3 Years For Bribery Scheme

Law360, Miami (January 23, 2014, 5:08 PM EST) -- Former Sweetwater, Fla., Mayor Manuel L. Marono was sentenced Thursday to 40 months in federal prison for his role in a kickback and bribery scheme to obtain and keep thousands of dollars in federal grant money.

U.S. District Judge William J. Zloch appeared to be sending a message against corruption with his decision to give Marono four months above the defense's and government prosecutors' recommendation of the low-end of the sentencing guidelines of 37 to 46 months.
